Press at the top right to choose between two outputs: a PNG sequence if you'll keep working in an editor, or an mp4 if you'll use it as-is.
A. PNG sequence (for editing, recommended)
Makes one transparent image per frame containing only the doodles (doodle_000001.png, doodle_000002.png …). It's the same size as the original video, so placed on a track above the original in your editor it lines up exactly.
- The original isn't re-encoded, so its quality, HDR and log stay untouched. Footage from dedicated cameras (ProRes, 10-bit, etc.) works this way too.
- There's a box to choose the fps. Match it to your editor's sequence (timeline) fps. Details in Matching fps.
- All PNGs plus README.txt download as one ZIP (up to 4GB). Unzip it and import into your editor.
- The included
README.txtlists the size, fps and image count, plus a short import guide for each editor.
B. Composited mp4
Makes one video with the doodles laid over the original. Resolution, frame count, each frame's timing and the sound match the original. It's exactly as long as the original clip, so it swaps straight into your timeline.
- It's re-encoded with the browser's hardware encoder, so quality drops slightly. The bitrate is set to about 1.5× the original.
- HDR (iPhone HLG) video becomes regular (SDR) video. Colors won't match when cut next to the original, so use the PNG sequence for editing. → When colors look off
- If the browser can't read the original's format (e.g. some ProRes, MXF), or the encoder doesn't support its size/fps, the button is disabled and the reason is shown.
How long it takes
Most of the time goes into drawing the doodles. Below are speeds measured on the development PC (desktop, recent GPU, Chrome) with short clips, scaled to one minute. Laptops and older PCs can take several times longer.
| Video (1 min) | PNG sequence | Composited mp4 |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p 30fps (1,800 images) | about 1 min | about 20 s |
| 4K 30fps | about 2–4 min | about 30 s–1 min |
| 1080p 240fps (14,400 images) | about 6–8 min | about 1–2 min |
The progress screen shows frames processed and time left, and you can at any time.
Don't close or reload the tab while exporting. It keeps going if you switch tabs, but may slow down depending on the browser. Laptops are faster when plugged in.
