FAQ

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Your video, the doodles you draw and your work are all processed and stored only in the browser you're using. Details are in the privacy policy.

My video won't open.

The browser can't play that format (e.g. ProRes, MXF, some 10-bit video, or iPhone video in Firefox). Video check shows the cause. The fix is to make an H.264 mp4 copy with the same fps and length in your editor, work on that, then export a PNG sequence and lay it over the original. As long as the size (or aspect ratio) matches, the position lines up too.

My iPhone video plays sound but the picture is black.

iPhones record in HEVC by default, and browsers need help from the graphics card to decode it.

  • Chrome: turn on Settings > System > Use graphics acceleration when available and restart Chrome.
  • Edge: turn on the same setting, and install HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store.
  • Firefox: can't decode HEVC. Open it in Chrome, Edge or Safari.

If it still doesn't work, set iPhone Settings > Camera > Formats to Most Compatible and shoot again, or make an H.264 copy in your editor. Video check shows whether your browser can decode the video.

Where is my work saved?

Edits live only in the open editor window. Closing the window, reloading, or reopening the video starts fresh. To continue later, download a file (.doodle.json) with Save project, and next time open it with Open project and then open the same video.

Your own drawings ('Recent') and settings like smoothing stay in browser storage. Clearing browser data deletes them too.

I want to continue on another computer.

Move the .doodle.json file from Save project along with the original video, then on the other computer do Open project > Open video. Your hand-drawn drawings are included in the project file.

Exporting takes too long.

Doodles are drawn fresh for every frame, so time scales with length, resolution and fps. 4K or high-fps video takes a lot longer. Keep this tab on screen, and plug in your laptop. For videos over a minute, only the segment you picked when opening (up to 1 minute) is processed, so a shorter pick is faster. → Export

Does it work on phones or iPad?

Phones are not supported. iPad and Android tablets have experimental support in current Safari and Chrome. Choose Open experimental editor in the editor. Videos are limited to 1080p, 30fps and 20 seconds, and PNG ZIP downloads to 128MB. Select a segment of up to 20 seconds for longer videos. Performance has not been verified on physical tablets: start with a short clip and save your project often. Keep the screen on and stay in this tab while exporting. On computers, use current Chrome or Edge.

I can't see the wobble or texture in the editor.

The editor shows only clean lines so it stays responsive. The crayon texture, wobble and shadow are added in the exported result.

Can I use what I make commercially?
